City Services

How do I report a pothole or street-light outage?

Use the Report an Issue form. Most non-emergency issues receive an acknowledgment within one (1) business day. You will receive a tracking ID (e.g., SR-2026-001234) so you can reference your request.

Does the City offer language interpretation?

Yes. Spanish interpretation is available at all public meetings with 48 hours’ notice. Additional languages can typically be arranged with 5 business days’ notice. Submit an ADA & Language Accommodation Request to get started.

How do I request public records?

Use the Public Records Request form. You will receive a tracking ID and an initial response within the statutory deadline (10 calendar days in California). There is no charge to inspect records; copying charges are $0.10/page.

Permits & Planning

Do I need a permit to install a fence?

A permit is required for fences taller than 6 feet or any fence in the front yard setback. Fences on corner lots or near driveways are subject to additional sight-distance requirements. See the Planning Division fence handout for diagrams.

What is the typical timeline for a residential building permit?

Simple residential alterations (e.g., water-heater replacements, re-roofs) are typically issued over-the-counter. Standard additions and remodels take 4–6 weeks for plan review. Complex projects requiring Planning Commission review may take 3–4 months.

Trash & Recycling

When is my collection day?

Collection days vary by neighborhood. Enter your address in the online lookup tool on the Trash & Recycling page to see your schedule. Collection is not delayed for most holidays except New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

How do I get rid of large items, paint, or electronics?

Residents are entitled to two (2) free bulky-item pickups per year; schedule at least five (5) business days in advance. Household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, batteries) and e-waste (TVs, computers) are accepted free at the County HHW facility every second Saturday.

Utilities & Billing

How do I pay my water bill?

You can pay online at the resident portal, by automatic monthly draft, by phone at (555) 742-8100, or in person at City Hall (50 Main Street). The City does not charge a convenience fee for online payments.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Accounts become delinquent after 25 days. A $15 late fee is assessed at day 30. Service may be disconnected after day 45 following written notice. If you are experiencing hardship, please call the Utilities Customer Service line at (555) 742-8100 to discuss payment arrangements before service is disconnected.

How do I start or stop service at a new address?

Submit a Service Start/Stop form at least three (3) business days before your move-in or move-out date. Forms are available online or at City Hall. A $35 new-account deposit may apply depending on credit history.
