MAPLEWOOD — The City of Maplewood, in partnership with the Regional Transportation Commission, officially broke ground Tuesday on the Oak Avenue Complete Streets project, a $4.2M investment in protected bike lanes, improved pedestrian crossings, and ADA-compliant curb ramps along the City’s most-traveled residential corridor.
“Oak Avenue carries 18,000 vehicles a day past two schools and a community center,” said Mayor Linda Chen. “This project will make it dramatically safer for everyone — drivers, cyclists, and especially our kids walking to school.”
The project is funded through a combination of the City’s Measure M transportation tax, a California Active Transportation Program grant, and local gas-tax revenues. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of the fiscal year.
